ABSTRACT

The gynecological tumours such as Breast cancer or female reproductive system tumors are a serious threat to female health. With the development of molecular diagnosis, the genomic changes of gynecological tumours have been revealed continuously, and the diagnosis and treatment modes of tumors have gradually changed. The detection of molecular targets which potentially participated in the transformation or progress of disease has become an important section of the management of female reproductive tumors, and accurate identification of molecular targets of tumors plays an important role in disease diagnosis, monitoring of metastasis, prediction of recurrence and treatment. This review briefly discusses the risk assessment, molecular typing, targeted therapy, toxic and side effects, and prognosis evaluation of breast and female reproductive system tumors by molecular diagnosis.

ABSTRACT

Abstract Primary male genital melanomas are very rare; they are associated with high mortality and late detection. Scrotal melanoma is the least common presentation and only 23 cases have been reported. Herein, the authors present a 30-year-old patient with stage IIIC (T4b, N2a, M0) scrotal melanoma in order to report the characteristics, treatment, and outcome, as well as to emphasize the importance of examination of the genitals, education of patients about self-examination and destigmatizing genital lesions to increase the likelihood of earlier detection.

Introdução: A doença de Paget extramamária é constituída por adenocarcinoma da pele em áreas de glândulas apócrinas. Trata-se de neoplasia rara cujo tratamento cirúrgico aparenta resultados satisfatórios. Devido às altas taxas de recorrência, entretanto, as cirurgias são potencialmente mutilantes. O imiquimode é imunoestimulador tópico utilizado no tratamento de verrugas anogenitais e carcinomas in situ. Seu uso tem sido descrito na literatura científica para terapia da doença de Paget extramamária com resultados satisfatórios. Objetivo: Descrever a evolução de quatro casos de doença de Paget extramamária tratados com imiquimode, para avaliação da evolução e resposta terapêutica. Métodos: Foi realizado estudo retrospectivo em serviço de dermatologia da cidade de São Paulo com revisão de prontuários de todos os pacientes com diagnóstico de doença de Paget extramamária e tratados com imiquimode de janeiro de 2011 a julho de 2018. Resultados: Foram incluídos quatro pacientes, três com lesão vulvar e um com lesão em bolsa escrotal. Duas mulheres evoluíram com resolução total da doença, uma não apresentou alteração, e o homem evolui com regressão de 70% da lesão, sendo submetido à exérese cirúrgica de área consideravelmente menor do que a da lesão inicial. Conclusões: O imiquimode se apresenta como método terapêutico válido no tratamento da doença de Paget extramamária.


Introduction: Extramammary Paget disease consists of a cutaneous adenocarcinoma in areas of apocrine glands. It is a rare neoplasia, and its surgical treatment yields satisfactory results. However, due to the high recurrence rates, surgeries are potentially disfiguring. Imiquimod is a topical immune-stimulant used for the treatment of anogenital warts and in situ carcinomas. Its use has been described in the scientific literature for the treatment of Extramammary Paget disease with satisfactory results. Objective: Describe the course of four cases of Extramammary Paget disease treated with imiquimod, to evaluate evolution and therapeutic response. Methods: A retrospective study was performed in a service of dermatology in the city of São Paulo, with the review of medical records of all patients diagnosed with Extramammary Paget disease and treated with imiquimod from January 2011 to July 2018. Results: Four patients were included, three with vulvar lesion and one with scrotal lesion. Two women presented completed resolution of the disease, one did not respond and the man progressed with 70% regression of the lesion, having undergone surgical excision of a considerably smaller area than the initial lesion. Conclusions: Imiquimod presents as a valid therapeutic modality for the treatment of Extramammary Paget disease.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the value of delayed 18F-FDG PET/CT with oral intake small dosage diuretics for diagnosing urogenital cancers.Methods Patients with suspected urogenital system cancers were divided into routine dosage diuretic group (n=12) and small dosage diuretics group (n=35).All patients underwent whole-body PET/CT followed by delayed scanning after oral 40 mg or 20 mg Furosemide respectively.The urine maximum standard uptake value (SUVmax) and T/U (the ratio of urine and lesion SUVmax) before and after diuresis were compared respectively.Diagnostic efficacy for malignant urogenital system cancers of small dosage group was calculated.Results The urine SUVmax and T/U were statistically different between routine whole body and delayed scans in both groups (P<0.05).SUVmax and T/U of routine and delayed scans had no statistical differences between the two groups (P>0.05).In small dosage group,the sensitivity,specificity,positive predictive value,negative predictive value and accuracy of delayed imaging and routine imaging was 96.77% (30/31)and 61.29% (19/31),75.00% (3/4) and 50.00% (2/4),96.77% (30/31) and 90.48% (19/21),75.00% (3/4)and 14.29% (2/14),94.29% (33/35) and 60.00% (21/35),respectively.The sensitivity and accuracy were statistically different between routine and delayed imaging (P<0.001).Conclusion Delayed PET/CT imaging with oral small dosage Furosemide has the same efficacy as PET/CT using routine dosage diuretics,which is useful for diagnosing urogenital cancers.

A maioria dos tumores da bexiga é formada por células transicionais. Hemangiopericitoma é um tumor de tecidos moles e apresenta grande variabilidade histológica e ocorrência extremamente rara na bexiga. Neste trabalho é relatado um caso de hemangiopericitoma de bexiga em um paciente de 23 anos. Os achados clínicos e anatomopatológicos deste tumor são discutidos no presente relato, com revisão da literatura(AU)


Most bladder tumors are formed by transitional cells. Hemangiopericytoma is a soft tissue tumor which presents great histologic variability and extremely rare occurrence in the bladder. Here the authors report a case of hemangiopericytoma of the bladder in a 23-year-old patient. The clinical and pathological features of this tumor are discussed in this report with a literature review(AU)

ABSTRACT

Background and purpose: 18F-FDG has been considered to be of limited value for the detection of bladder lesions because of interference by the 18F-FDG excreted in urine. Delayed pelvic images with“diluted and iflled bladder”use a method of 18F-FDG PET/CT with delayed images after oral hydration so as to increase the detection rate of 18F-lfuorodeoxyglucose(FDG) PET/CT imaging for the lesions of bladder. Methods:48 patients with bladder lesions(35 patients with bladder primary tumor and 13 patients with metastatic tumor) underwent 18F-FDG PET/CT detection and were required oral hydration of 1200-1800 mL water, urination frequently, holding urine when the more scan began. Lesions conifrmed by histopathology, MRI, CT or clinical follow-up at least 1 year. Results:89%(43/48) of patients were obtained good clearance and the urine SUVmax declined from 33.14(9-66.80)to 3.23(1.35-5.65) signiifcantly and the statistical difference was signiifcant (t=8.703, P<0.01). The interval time between two scan was 2 h approximately. At the same time, the SUVmax of bladder lesion was 2.8-25.0. Detection sensitivity, speciifcity and accuracy were 90.47%(19/21), 81.48%(22/27)and 85.41%(41/48), respectively. Conclusion: 18F-FDG activity in the bladder signiifcantly decreased in most patients with“diluted and iflled bladder”. The PET/CT scan can highly detect lesions of bladder tissues. Our method with high accuracy and better endurance could be applied to detect the lesions in bladder.

ABSTRACT

Primary seminal vesicle (SV) adenocarcinoma is a rare tumor. A small amount of data about the role of imaging to detect tumor recurrence is available. We report the case of a 58-year-old patient with primary SV clear-cell well-differentiated adenocarcinoma. Clinical and instrumental examinations were negative for the 32 months after treatments when computed tomography scan, [18F]fluoro-D-glucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography and pelvic magnetic resonance imaging showed the appearance of a lesion in the left perineal muscle suspected for recurrence. Patient was symptomless. Cytology of the suspected lesion confirmed SV adenocarcinoma recurrence. The combined approach, using radiological and nuclear medicine techniques, seems to be effective in the follow-up of SV adenocarcinoma. Technological advances, together with awareness of this rare tumor, have the potential of improving patients outcomes not only by providing earlier detection and accurate staging, but also by detecting recurrence and thereby avoiding delays and therapeutic dilemmas.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the CT image features of urinary tract inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) for use in clinical and differential diagnosis.Methods Eight pathologically proven IMT cases were retrospectively analyzed in this study.There were six female patients and two male patients.Patient average age was 35 (13-62) years.The main clinical manifestations were hematuria and urination pain.Tumors were found in the bladder in 5 cases,in ureter in 2 cases and in urethra in 1 case.All the 8 cases accepted CT scan five of which had contrast enhanced CT scan.The imaging features were then analyzed.Results Of the IMT in bladder,CT scan showed a cauliflower like bladder tumor or round soft tissue mass with even or uneven density of 11.5-36.0 HU.Three tunors were accompanied with necrosis.Four cases had associated adjacent bladder wall thickening and two cases were found with fuzzy surrounding fat space.Ureteral lesions in two cases showed a solid mass with smooth edges and even density of 40.3 HU compared to the surrounding muscle.The urethral lesions had clear mass realm of 17.5-22.6 HU accompanied with calcification.Enhanced CT scan showed that homogeneous or heterogeneous mild to moderate enhancement was found in the tumor.Delayed phase showed consistant enhancement of 102.7-118.6 HU.Conclusion Tumor CT imaging features,particularly the significant and consistant enhancement in delayed phase,provide important information for diagnosis and differential diagnosis of the urinary tract IMT.

ABSTRACT

Purpose

This study compares incidence and mortality of penile cancer in Puerto Rico (PR) with other racial/ethnic groups in the United States (US) and evaluates the extent in which socioeconomic position index (SEP) or its components influence incidence and mortality in PR. Materials and Methods

Age-standardized rates were calculated for incidence and mortality based on data from the PR Cancer Registry and the US National Cancer Institute's Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results program, using the direct method. Results

PR men had approximately 3-fold higher incidence of penile cancer as compared to non-Hispanic white (Standardized rate ratio [SRR]: 3.33; 95%CI=2.80-3.95). A higher incidence of penile cancer was also reported in PR men as compared to non-Hispanic blacks and Hispanics men. Mortality from penile cancer was also higher for PR men as compared to all other ethnic/racial groups. PR men in the lowest SEP index had 70% higher incidence of penile cancer as compared with those PR men in the highest SEP index. However, the association was marginally significant (SRR: 1.70; 95%CI=0.97, 2.87). Only low educational attainment was statistically associated with higher penile cancer incidence (SRR: 2.18; 95%CI=1.42-3.29). Conclusions

Although penile cancer is relatively uncommon, our results support significant disparities in the incidence and mortality rates among men in PR. Low educational attainment might influence the high incidence of penile cancer among PR men. Further studies are strongly recommended to explore these disparities. .

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To determine the effects of water-soluble derivative of green propolis in bladder cancer angiogenesis in rats given N-butyl-(-4-hydroxybutyl) nitrosamine (BBN). METHODS: Nine groups were established, where six of them (Groups 1 to 6), the animals received 0.05% BBN in their drinking water for 14 weeks. From the 32nd to the 40th week, Groups 1, 2, 3 and 4 were treated respectively with water, L-lysine (300 mg/kg/day), celecoxib (30 mg/kg/day) and propolis (300 mg/kg/day). Groups 5 and 6 were given propolis and L-lysine from the 1st to the 40th week (150 mg/kg/day). Microvascular density was determined by histological sections stained for the marker CD-31 and analyzed with specific software. RESULTS: The microvascular density in bladder carcinomas was lower (p<0.01) in rats receiving propolis than in controls given carcinogen only. On the other hand, the microvascular density of tumors in rats receiving carcinogen and L-lysine for 40 weeks from the beginning of carcinogen treatment was significantly higher (p<0.01) than in the corresponding controls. CONCLUSION: Water-soluble derivative of propolis inhibits angiogenesis in BBN-induced rat bladder cancer, while L-lysine treatment stimulates angiogenesis if initiated concurrently with BBN.


OBJETIVO: Determinar os efeitos da própolis verde solúvel em água na angiogênese de câncer de bexiga em ratos que receberam n-butil-(-4-hidroxibutil) nitrosamina (BBN). METODOS: Nove grupos foram estabelecidos, onde em seis destes (grupos de 1 a 6) os animais receberam BBN a 0,05% em água de beber por 14 semanas. Na 32ª semana das 40 semanas, os grupos 1, 2, 3 e 4 foram tratados respectivamente com água, L lisina (300 mg/kg/dia), celecoxibe (30 mg/kg/dia) e própolis (300 mg/kg/dia). Os grupos 5 e 6 receberam própolis e L lisina da 1ª a 40ª semana (150 mg/ kg/dia). A densidade microvascular foi determinada por cortes histológicos corados pelo CD-31 e analisados por programa de computador específico. RESULTADOS: A densidade microvascular em carcinomas de bexiga foi menor com p<0,01 nos ratos que receberam própolis do que nos carcinomas do grupo controle que recebeu apenas carcinógeno. Por outro lado, a densidade microvascular de tumores de ratos que receberam carcinógeno e L-Lisina por 40 semanas desde o início do carcinógeno foi significantemente maior com p<0,01 que a densidade microvascular dos tumores de seu respectivo grupo controle. CONCLUSÃO: A própolis verde solúvel em água inibiu a angiogênese em câncer de bexiga induzido pelo BBN, enquanto a L- lisina estimulou a angiogênese quando iniciada juntamente com o BBN.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To determine the effects of green propolis extracted in L-lysine (WSDP) and of L- lysine for 40 weeks on induced rat bladder carcinogenesis. METHODS: The animals (groups I, II, III, IV, V and VI) received BBN during 14 weeks. Group I was treated with propolis 30 days prior received BBN, and then these animals were treated daily with propolis; Groups II and III was treated with subcutaneous and oral propolis (respectively) concurrently with BBN. The animals of Group IV were treated L-lysine; Group V received water subcutaneous; and Group VI received only to BBN. Among the animals not submitted to carcinogenesis induction, Group VII received propolis, Group VIII received L-lysine and Group IX received water. RESULTS: The carcinoma incidence in Group I was lower than that of control (Group VI). The carcinoma multiplicity in Group IV was greater than in Group VI. All animals treated with L-lysine developed carcinomas, and they were also more invasive in Group IV than in controls. On the other hand, Group VIII showed no bladder lesions. CONCLUSION: The WSDP is chemopreventive against rat bladder carcinogenesis, if administered 30 days prior to BBN , and that L-lysine causes promotion of bladder carcinogenesis.


OBJETIVO: Determinar os efeitos da própolis verde extraída em L - Lisina (WSDP) e da L-Lisina por 40 semanas em ratos induzidos a carcinogênese de bexiga. MÉTODOS: Os animais (grupos I, II, III, IV, V e VI) receberam BBN por 14 semanas. O grupo I foi tratado com própolis 30 dias antes de receber BBN e em seguida estes animais foram tratados diariamente com própolis; Os grupos II e III foram tratados com própolis subcutânea e oral (respectivamente) e concorretemente com BBN. Os animais do grupo IV foram tratados com L- Lisina; o grupo V recebeu água subcutânea; o grupo VI recebeu apenas BBN. Entre os animais não submetidos a indução de carcinogênese, Grupo VII, receberam própolis, Grupo VIII, receberam L-Lisina e Grupo IX receberam água. RESULTADOS: A incidência de carcinoma no grupo I foi menor que no grupo controle (grupo IV) A multiplicidade de carcinoma no grupo IV foi maior que no grupo VI. Todos os animais tratados com L - Lisina desenvolveram carcinomas e estes foram mais invasivos no grupo IV que no grupo controle. Por outro lado o grupo VIII não apresentou lesões. CONCLUSÃO: WSDP é quimiopreventiva contra a carcinogese de bexiga se administrada 30 dias antes do início do BBN, e a L - Lisina causa promoção da carcinogênese de bexiga.

ABSTRACT

Objective To analyze the epidemiographic features of urological de novo malignant tumor in kidney transplant recipients in the General Hospital of Jinan Military Command.Methods The clinical data of 1945 patients who received kidney transplantation between September 1978 and December 2009 were retrospectively studied.Among 1945 recipients,22 cases were diagnosed as having urological de novo malignant tumors ( incidence:1.13% ),including renal papillary adencaicinoma (n =1 ),papillary renal cell carcinoma (n =1 ),renal hemangiosarcoma (n =1 ) ; pelvic transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) (n =1 ),pelvic and ureter TCC (n =6),ureter TCC (n =7),pelvic and ureter and urinal bladder TCC (n =1 ),4 cases of bladder malignant tumors (including 3 cases of bladder TCC and 1 case of borderline bladder tumor).Of the 22 cases,17 had a main clinical manifestation of gross hematuria and 2 had microscopic hematuria,and the rest 3 had no obvious symptom.The average age at diagnosis of these 22 cases was 54.3 ± 12.3 years,with a mean time of 53 months after kidney transplantation.Ten cases received immunosuppressive treatment by using cyclosporine A (CsA) + azathioprine (Aza) + prednisone (Pred),while the remaining 12 received CsA + MMF + Pred.Surgical treatment was carried out in all cases:radical nephrectomy was conducted for 3 cases of renal carcinoma; total resection of kidney,ureter and sleeve-shaped resection of bladder in affected side were conducted for the 15 cases of pelvis or ureter carcinoma; for the 4 cases of bladder carcinoma,transurethral resection of bladder tumor was conducted for 3 cases while partial cystectomy was conducted for the other one case.Results During a follow-up period of 2 to 97 months,there were 9 deaths 6 to 97 months after toumorectomy.One died of bone metastasis,one pulmonary metastasis,two brain metastasis,two hepatic metastasis,and three extensive metastatic tumor soon after the diagnosis.Thirteen patients survived through the follow-up,with the longest survival time being 92 months in one patient with urinary bladder tumor.Four patients survived longer than 4 years,and 5 cases longer than 1 year.Conclusion Urological de novo malignant tumor is an important complication after renal transplantation with a main clinical manifestation of painless gross hematuria,and surgical resection is the most important treatment.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To evaluate the clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis of localized resectable genitourinary sarcomas in adults. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between September, 1996 and November, 2008, 18 consecutive cases of adults (12 men and 6 women; median age 48.8 years) who were treated for primary genitourinary sarcomas were identified. The following variables were analyzed: patient age, gender, body mass index, American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) score, primary organ, tumor histology, size, necrosis, Federation Nationale des Centres de Lutte Contre le Cancer (FNCLCC) grade, and surgical margin positivity. Recurrence-free survival and disease-specific survival were the study end-points. RESULTS: The most common presenting symptom was a palpable mass (six cases, 33.3%), the most common site was the kidney (six cases, 33.3%), and the most common histological subtype was leiomyosarcoma (eight patients, 44.4%). Complete resection with negative surgical margins was achieved in 13 patients (72.2%). The median follow-up period was 49.9 months (range 6.4 to 147.6). The recurrence-free survival rates at 1, 3, and 5 years were 81.6%, 66.5%, and 66.5%, respectively. Recurrence-free survival only associated significantly with ASA score (p=0.018). The disease-specific survival rate at 1, 3, and 5 years was 88.9%, 76.2%, and 67.7%, respectively. Disease-specific survival was associated significantly only with FNCLCC grade (p=0.042). CONCLUSION: Although genitourinary sarcomas in adults are a rare group of tumors with a poor prognosis, some patients may have a favorable prognosis. Our findings suggest that FNCLCC grade is the most important prognostic factor for these patients.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: Tumor banks have the primary responsibility for collecting, cataloging, storing and disseminating samples of tissues, cells and fluids, which are used by researchers to identify diagnostic molecular markers, prognostic indicators and therapeutic targets. The objective of this review was to describe a simple, reliable and reproducible protocol for obtaining and storing samples of urological tumors. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Urogenital tumor tissues were collected by the surgeons from the Urology Division of University of Sao Paulo Medical School. The obtained surgical specimens were immediately placed in liquid nitrogen, dry ice or in a tube containing RNAlater ®, and then stored by cryopreservation (-80°C). A mirror fragment was fixed in 10 percent formalin processed routinely and embedded in Paraplast®. RESULTS: We developed a protocol for the collection, cataloging, storage, conservation and use of tumor samples. During a period of one year the Urological Tumor Bank of the Urology Division stored 274 samples of prostate, bladder, kidney, penis and testicle tumors of different histological types, 74 urine and 271 serum samples. CONCLUSIONS: Having biological materials characterized and available along with the clinical patient information provides an integrated portrait of the patients and their diseases facilitating advances in molecular biology. It also promotes the development of translational research improving methods of diagnosis and cancer treatment.

ABSTRACT

In this review, we summarized nine major clinical advances in gynecology which occurred in 2009. For cervical cancer, the role of human papillomavirus (HPV) test as a screening test, the efficacy of HPV vaccine for middle-aged women, randomized controlled trial (RCT) regarding concurrent chemoradiation using gemcitabine plus cisplatin, and the efficacy of pazopanib for metastatic or recurrent disease were chosen. For endometrial cancer, the necessity of systematic pelvic lymphadenectomy in early endometrial cancer was reviewed. For ovarian cancer, the timing of treatment initiation for recurrent ovarian cancer, dose-dense chemotherapy as postoperative adjuvant treatment, the best chemotherapy regimen for platinum-sensitive recurrent ovarian cancer, and the efficacy of target agents were selected. In addition, the results of RCT testing the benefit of ginger in preventing post-chemotherapy nausea were examined.

A ressonância magnética é ferramenta importante para a detecção e caracterização dos tumores adrenais. O conhecimento das diferentes apresentações dos tumores primários e secundários à ressonância magnética e sua correlação com dados da histologia são essenciais para o correto raciocínio diagnóstico. Este artigo revisa os aspectos que podem estreitar o diagnóstico diferencial dos tumores adrenais, dando ênfase à correlação histológica daqueles mais comuns.


Magnetic resonance imaging is an important tool for the detection and characterization of adrenal tumors. The knowledge about the different presentations of primary and secondary adrenal tumors at magnetic resonance imaging and their correlation with histological data are essential for the establishment of a correct diagnosis. The present study reviews magnetic resonance imaging aspects which may narrow the differential diagnosis of adrenal tumors, emphasizing the histological correlation of the most frequent ones.

ABSTRACT

For cervical cancer, clinical impact of HPV vaccine, prognostic value of imaging during radiotherapy, and oncologic/obstetric outcomes of fertility-sparing surgery were chosen. For uterine cancer, optimal method of adjuvant radiotherapy in intermediate-risk patients, extent of lymph node dissection, outcome of robot-assisted staging surgery, new standard chemotherapy regimen for leiomyosarcoma were selected. For ovarian cancer, recent changes in adjuvant therapy, feasibility of neoadjuvant chemotherapy, prediction of optimal secondary cytoreduction, studies on new biomarkers, advances in screening and treatment of women with BRCA mutations were included. For other cancers, the safety of sentinel lymph node dissection in vulvar cancer and chemotherapy regimens for low-risk gestational trophoblastic tumors were reviewed.

ABSTRACT

Major clinical research advances in gynecologic cancer in 2007 are as follows. Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines were shown to be effective in preventing cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN). In treating cervical cancer, the intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) was suggested to be less toxic than the conventional radiotherapy was. Minimally invasive surgery, especially robot surgery is expected to be more popular in future. Adjuvant radiotherapy did not increase the survival rate in early endometrial cancer. Adjuvant chemoradiation was demonstrated to be superior to adjuvant radiation in the treatment of early endometrial cancer. Hormone therapy in endometrial cancer was effective but has high recurrence rate. Pelvic/abdominal pain, increased abdominal size/bloating, difficulty eating/feeling full, urinary frequency/urgency could be the symptoms of ovarian cancer. Serial CA-125 measurement or combining ultrasonography and CA-125 could be effective screening strategies of ovarian cancer. Molecules interfering vascular-endothelial growth factor (VEGF) were shown to be effective in the treatment of ovarian cancer.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To analyze how scrotal neoplasias have been managed during the past decade and to question possible factors or professions associated to its presence. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively evaluated every case reported from 1995 to 2005 at our hospital. We described the clinical scenario, complementary exams, treatments and outcomes. We also tried to verify if there was any risk, predisposing factors or professions that would explain the cancer origin. RESULTS: Six cases were reviewed. Out of these, three patients were truck drivers. Five of them showed restricted lesions without inguinal lymph nodes enlargement. Histologically, six patients presented squamous carcinoma, with two of them having the verrucous type. The median age of patients was 52 years old (31 to 89). The five patients who are still alive had their lesions completely removed with safety margin and primary closure. CONCLUSIONS: We have noticed that the scrotal carcinoma behavior is similar to that of the penis, where removal of the lesion and study of the regional lymph nodes help to increase the patient survival rate. The outstanding fact was that three out of six patients were truck drivers, raising the hypothesis that such profession, maybe due to the contact or attrition with the diesel exhaust expelled by the engine or to sexual promiscuity, would imply in a larger risk of developing this rare neoplasia.
